In this scene there’s another robot mounted on metal stairs/legs working on some wiring. Remember that we’re the little robot standing on the bridge. The saxophone player doesn’t have any keys, the drummer doesn’t have a drum, and the robot on the left has some critter living in his big pipe thingy (I hate it when that happens).Ĭlick Here to see a larger, more detailed version of this image. When we first reach this scene, none of the instruments work. Consider the band in the scene below, for example. Some of the tasks we have to perform are really rather convoluted. On the bright side, Machinarium does offer a lot of hints including cartoon-like sketches describing the puzzle at hand and its solution (you have to play a side game every time you wish to gain access to these sketches, which become increasingly cryptic as you proceed through the game). Apart from a few tutorial prompts on the first screen, the game is devoid of understandable language entirely. Machinarium is notable in that it contains no dialogue, spoken or written. This is not as easy as you might think, and it’s just one of many such puzzles. Our task is to get all three of the upward-pointing buttons on the top and all three of the downward-pointing buttons on the bottom as shown in the right-most column in the image above. If we next click the bottom-most downward-pointing button, it will leapfrog the top-most upward-pointing button as illustrated in the third column from the left (juts describing this is making my brain ache). In the image shown above, for example, if we start by clicking the top-most upward-pointing button, it will move into the empty space in the middle as illustrated in the second column from the left. Alternatively, if we click a button and there is just one other button between us and the empty space (again in our direction of travel) then the button we click will leapfrog the other button and jump into the empty space. If we click (touch) a button and the empty space is in its direction of travel, then our button will move into the empty space. The upward-pointing buttons will only move up and the downward-pointing buttons will only move down. As illustrated by the vertical column of buttons on the left-hand of this image, we commence with three buttons with downward-pointing arrows at the top, three buttons with upward-pointing buttons on the bottom, and an empty space in the middle.
